Service: Illinois office of NAMI
Description:

In collaboration with NAMI international, Illinois affiliates and other like minded organizations, influence public policies, provide up to date education and support programs, and increase public awareness and understanding of mental illness.

State Programs:

  • Family to Family: a free 12 week course for family caregivers of individuals with severe mental illness.
  • In Our Own Voice (IOOV) Public Education Program: trained consumer speakers share stories about living with mental illness and achieving recovery.
  • NAMI Connection: A weekly recovery support group for people living with mental illness.
  • Parents and Teachers as Allies: a 2 hour in service program for school professionals to better understand early warning signs of mental illness and how to intervene.
  • Peer to Peer: Learning program for people with mental illness to help maintain wellness.
  • Provider Education: a 10 week course for staff of public agencies: how to work with people with mental illness.
