Service: Homeless Education Services
Description:

The McKinney Vento Act is a federal act (amended from the original McKinney Act) to help insure education for homeless children.  Homeless defined as: an individual who lacks a fixed, regular and adequate night time residence.  This act ensures that:

  • homeless children get transportation to and from school free of charge
  • allowing a child to attend school of origin
  • have schools be required to register homeless children even if they lack the normally required documentation

The Homeless Education Technical Assistance Program provides a guide for shelter staff and families about school enrollement that helps keep children in school no matter what their living situation.

Eligiblity:

For children and families with children that are homeless or living in a homeless shelter to help maintain their educational status.
