Service: Public Health Services
Description:

Environmental Health Services

  • Food Sanitation: Provides food inspections for food service establishments to insure food safety.  Training for food safety is also provided upon request.
  • Private Sewage Disposal: Reviews plans for sewage disposal systems, issues permits, and  inspects to insure proper installation.
  • Private Water Supply: Permits are issued for well construction, well inspections are made to insure proper location and materials, and also water tests are done.
  • Nuisance: Investigates complaints of any violation of the County Nuisance ordinance.
  • Tanning Beds: Beds are inspected annually for the Illinois Department of Public Health.
  • Body Art: Piercing, Scaring, and Tatooing are licenced and monitored.
  • West Nile Virus: Misquitoes, birds, and bats are tested and monitored for WNV and other diseased for which they may be vectors.  Also, misquito abatement programs, and training are kept current.

Communicable Diseases: 

  • Communicable Disease: investigation, reporting and following up for Bond County.
  • Immunizations: Vaccinations of children and adults are available to help control the spread of communicable diseases such as flu, pneumonia, and shingles.  Immunization for travel is also available for a charge. 
  • Tuberculosis Control: Chest clinic at the Greenville Regional Hospital by a contract, to help those with tuberculosis and to help control it's spread.  This may include: x-rays, lab tests, medications and follow-up care.  TB skin tests available upon request.
  • HIV Referral Site: counseling and resources provided.

Functional Health Programs: 

  • School Health: Nursing services are provided for Bond County Unit 1 School District.
  • Visions and hearing screening.
  • FAMILY PLANNING: We provide voluntary comprehensive family planning services to low income individuals of reproductive age, including education and choice counseling. All services are confidential. Contraceptive options are discussed and dispensed.  Medical services include physical exam, pap smear, breast cancer screening, sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia, and emergency contraception. Blood pressure, weight, height, urine, hematocrit and pregnancy tests are available, if needed. 
  • HEALTHY FAMILIES ILLINOIS (HFI): A home visiting program for expecting parents or parents of newborns that is voluntary.  HFI strives to help strengthen the parent-child relationship, promote healthy child growth and development, helps develop problem solving skills and helps with improvement overall in the family support system.
  • Individual health screenings: High blood pressure screening noon until 4:pm.  Also, for a small fee, Cholesterol and Glucose screenings available.
  • Illinois Brest and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP): Clinical breast exams, pelvic exams, mammograms and pap smears available to eligible women; funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health and The Center for Disease Control.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Medical Reserve Corps: Planning and readiness for any emergency event that may result in a public health danger.  The department continues to work on a Strategic National Stockpile Plan (SNS), establish a volunteer base, and participate in drills.
  • School Educator: provides health education for schools.  Topics include alcohol and drug abuse prevention, osteoperosis prevention, and smoking cessation.  By appointment or call during normal business hours.
  • Health Education: Overal health education and provision of resources for individuals, organizatons and businesses in our community.  The goal is to promote healthy living and help with prevention to reduce chronic mental and physical problems within our population.
